Pond Liners

There are 3 main ways to waterproof a pond; concrete, waterproof pond lining material or a pre-formed shell.

  • pond liners image Concrete – Sometimes seen as the easiest choice but the gravel in the pond or roots from nearby trees can erode the concrete over time and water gets into the reinforcement causing corrosion, spalling and a failure of the concrete. If you wish to use a concrete surround and / or a base as a pond lining then we recommend the Polyprufe pond lining system over the top of this to stop problems occurring.

Designing Your Pond - Options

  • Waterproof material – A waterproof pond liner can be used but this can rip easily which means the time and cost of emptying the pond to make repairs. Even a small (and hard to locate) pinhole leak can cause long term pond maintenance issues.

  • Pre-formed shell – A fiberglass or GRP shell gives a fixed shape and size to the pond. The major problem with pond shells are that you have to make sure the exact dimensions of the pond shell are dug out so the shell fits exactly. Pond shells can also fade in time and can get distorted during installation.

We totally waterproof your pond using the Polyprufe pond lining on top of either a concrete base or a geotextile layer. The spray on pond lining is extremely tough, flexible and prevents root penetration. The pond lining can be quickly and easily applied after the basic pond has been installed, with the spay on pond coating applied directly over the concrete or pond lining.

In some circumstances we can make you a pre-formed shell off site but we would not recommended this option. Adding the Polyprufe pond lining system to either a concrete pond or pond lining material guaranteeing that you never have a leak.

Constructing Your Pond

Once dug out, the pond is lined with a textile pond liner or concrete. For existing ponds, the current fibreglass, GRP or liner can be coated with Polyprufe to give a completely sealed surface. The process is quick, simple and allows almost immediate use by animals and fish.
